The ball controls the paint at the end.

1. You always catch a basic and if it says “Oh?” it’s a Ditto. My hypothesis is that if it doesn’t make a sound when you throw a pokeball at it, you caught a Ditto. 

Just watched this. It was kind of funny that there was paint spraying out and they were swimming in it.
